Here’s how it works: When a user attempts to visit a website, the URL undergoes a series of checks against both global and local caches containing verified safe URLs and previous Safe Browsing checks. If the URL is not found in the caches, it undergoes a real-time check through a meticulously designed encryption process, safeguarding user identities throughout.
Key to this innovation is the implementation of an Oblivious HTTP (OHTTP) relay operated by Fastly, serving as a privacy barrier between Chrome and the Safe Browsing server. This ingenious setup prevents the Safe Browsing server from accessing users’ IP addresses, ensuring that browsing activity remains confidential.
